We are currently working on an incredible basement renovation that includes a retractable wall creating one giant indoor-outdoor entertaining space. This got me thinking, about how we Bostonians appreciate our good weather!
Here are some of my decorating tips to help your outside space shine. We prefer to dedicate certain areas of your outside space for eating, relaxing and entertaining. If you don’t have enough space for all three, think about both aesthetics and functionality to determine what to incorporate in your own home.
When outdoor dining, skip the table linen and create an ambiance with fresh-cut hydrangeas. Place them in modern round vases and add large citronella candles.
If you decide to have a more intimate setting with a few guests, always include flatware and napkins. It creates an upscale feeling with not much effort. Add a chic outdoor bar with stylish black and white geometric cement tile, but if this is out of the budget, use a stylish bar cart that can be easily wheeled back inside your home.
When dusk comes, lighting is key to keep the party vibe going in the backyard. My favorites include hanging lanterns or meteor shower string lights. And during the day, make sure your spot to relax has shade. If it doesn’t, incorporate chic umbrella setups.
And as we look to maximize our usable space post-pandemic, the lines between indoor/outdoor furniture blur even further with pieces that could look as good inside your home as it does outside. Add visual interest to your space with a cool concrete sphere sculpture, seating with rounded lines, and/or modular furniture.
Outdoor entertaining is one of my favorite past times in the summer and so we hope these tips will elevate your experience!
