Ahhh it’s officially Spring and with that comes watching the new merchandise roll in at our favorite retail partners. I spend many hours (maybe days) combing through runway shows, reading VOGUE and researching trends so that our clients don’t have to. And while my saying goes “not every trend, is for everyone”, I love sharing some of the most exciting ones I see popping up each season. Below is a round up of a few of my favs, enjoy!
CUT TO THE CLASSICS – With many clients focused on a multi-functional capsule wardrobe this is a great place to start shopping and very of the moment. Think of this as the modern day take on staple pieces that feel effortless. The tailored white button down, trousers, a slip dress and full suiting for example. Look for oversized cuts and work in bright, pinstriped or monochromatic shades to make these pieces feel anything but basic.
DENIM, DENIM AND MORE DENIM – From more relaxed jeans to full on denim head to toe, this is showing up everywhere for spring/summer ‘23. I always advise clients that good fitting denim is a worthy investment and can be the foundational piece to any laid-back look when the fit is on point. This season you can even think beyond the traditional jean and look for ones with interesting details, cargo pockets or strategically placed cutouts and slits. For a bolder look, pair denim on denim or go for a utility jumpsuit. And don’t forget accessories as shoes and bags in this fabric also make a statement.
3D FLORAL FANS – Rosettes and floral placements were big on the spring/summer runways. You can incorporate this in the form of a tie necklace or belt or shop tops that place these 3D flower motifs on necklines, busts or shoulders. This adds a romantic touch to any outfit while also feeling sculptural and modern.
MAD FOR MOTOCROSS – Almost like the badass sister to the varsity bomber jacket, motocross jackets and especially ones that feel vintage are trending. I’m always a fan of using outwear as a layering statement piece and particularly fond of the ones that are colorful or are racing inspired. If this feels too biker vibe for you, moto boots and jeans with detail lend themselves a bit of this 80’s resurgence with smaller touches that can add a little edge to any look.
HEMLINES FOR DAYS – Minis were back on trend this fall but now we are seeing them incorporate an extra level of interest and detail – whether it be a high/low cut, draping on the sides or a train – extra material can be found on a lot of the newest styles. And if a mini is not for you, you are in luck. The maxi is also huge this season and can be shopped in multiple flattering cuts from form fitting to A-line to full skirt.
Other trends that are still summer hot on my list include metallics, sheer, cutouts, exaggerated shoulders and wide waist belting.
As with every new season, it’s best not to go too hard with all or any one particular trend. Understand these are meant to augment what you already have in your wardrobe that you can actually style for you. Not sure which trends are right for you or how to incorporate them?
