In a “post-pandemic” world where parties, galas and office gatherings will be plentiful again; “what should I wear” is an often-asked question on special occasions. I see people wanting to make a statement and take risks with their fashion choices, so you should too. Here I’m rounding up my thoughts for looking chic, confident and making the best dressed list wherever this season takes you.
- Suiting and menswear are huge this winter, look for oversized cuts and more relaxed silhouettes. Make it dressy for a night out in sequins, velvet or a tuxedo style and think about swapping a traditional shirt for a tube top or lacy bralette underneath.
- Leather and/or vegan leather this winter is a MUST. I love the idea of a full leather dress, but if that feels too much try leather pants paired with a corset top or blouse. And don’t forget to accessorize with leather – headbands, gloves and belts are also amazing ways to add accents to your look.
- Showing skin is still soooo in for holiday. Cutouts, skirts with sky high slits and sheer dresses are perfect on-trends options for nights out. Pair with a statement jacket or coat for a complete look out.
- Speaking of outwear, faux fur is not only having a moment but keeps you looking amazing & cozy at the same time. Traditional brown/black will always be classic but now we are seeing fur in every color and pattern under the sun. Try a fur jacket the same color as your dress for a fun monochromatic look or wear a traditional wool coat with a oversized, statement fur collar for a glam, 70’s vibe.
- You really can’t go wrong with any of the season’s most opulent trends including sequins in every color, feathers and metallics. I love the idea of wearing these trends with something more unexpected, like sequin pants with a white button down or a classic cut dress with a feathered hem. Metallics will always be my go-to though …pants, boots, pumps, clutches and more.
This is a time for experimentation and stepping outside your comfort zone. An easy way to try something new on a smaller scale is to incorporate it in an accessory versus your full outfit. And if you’re not looking to spend a ton on a look or fully commit, try renting from a site like Rent The Runway or buying consignment on The RealReal.
