I live for fall fashion! But, going from summer to fall can sometimes be tricky when living in New England. One minute, you have a 75-degree day, and the next night, it dips into the 50s. That’s why I always recommend pieces that are good for transitional layering and bringing out heavier-weight fabrics to keep some summer pieces in rotation for longer. Think white denim jeans or silk maxi but make it seasonally appropriate and balanced by adding a leather biker jacket.
Here are 9 tips for transitioning your summer wardrobe into fall:
Get in Rotation
Okay, I know it’s “get in formation,” but humor me. Rotation is key in transitioning your wardrobe through seasons. Rotate in your heavier denim jackets, especially looser-fitting ones on trend.
All things Leather
Leather pants, jackets, skirts, and leggings in so many different silhouettes. Leather will be HOT this fall and show up in more relaxed styles.
Lightweight Knitwear
I am loving the return of the classic cardigan! Try it with a cropped cami or a looser open style to keep you at the perfect temp. You can rock a turtleneck, but opt for a sheer or lighter cotton fabric vs. wool.
Blazers
A classic goodie, blazers are another fantastic option for layering that can easily double as a jacket. Oversized is on trend but don’t discount your more tailored options; think two-piece bold suit vibes.
Prints & Patterns
Swap those summer floral prints in favor of plaid, tweed, and herringbone textiles. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try something outside your normal wheelhouse.
Footwear
Bold footwear is not going anywhere! Think chunky and platform boots, loafers with socks, and swap those sporty sandals for on-trend sneakers.
Color
Keep rocking bold colors and even pastels; just stay away from fabrics that feel too summery and lightweight, like linen or eyelet.
Accessories
Now is the time to get your felt hats, heavier leather handbags, and chunky jewelry out of the closet! Felt hats will spice up a more basic outfit and save you on a bad hair day, not to mention they do actually keep you warm when the cold hits. Just like footwear, think chunky earrings, mixed metallics, and super bold pieces moving into fall.
Conclusion
Building up a wardrobe with staple pieces that can be used in multiple seasons is so important- especially for your bank account. Invest in clothes you can use to layer and don’t be afraid to get on trend. If you remember anything from this blog remember these- rotate in your heavier jackets over summer pieces, wear all the leather, rock the chunky footwear and bold colors, and find your felt hats!
